Happy Pancake Day! Pancake day has been a holiday which has been celebrated by britons for centuries.  It can be rather confusing since the date of this holiday changes every year, this is because it is determined by when Easter falls.  However, it is always the day preceding Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent).  This always falls in February and March. Some people may wonder where the phrase ‘Shove Tuesday’ came from.  It actually comes from the word ‘shrive’ which means  obtain absolution for one's sins by way of confession and penance. Burns Night

Burns Night the 25th of January Burns night is a Scottish celebration that occurs every year on the 25th of January to celebrate the birth of the poet Robert Burns. The celebrations include fantastic feasts of food, Scottish whisky and lots of traditional dancing.  It can often be referred to as the Burns Supper. Many people wear traditional clothing such as kilts and also tartan check. Burns night often calls for bagpipes; however some people just prefer the traditional music. Guests often stand waiting while the music plays on arrival. There is also certain food that is expected at a Burns Night Supper. Slow Cooked Pulled Beef Chilli Ingredients 1kg Beef Shin/Flank cut into 8-10cm pieces 2 tablespoons vegetable oil 2 Large onions finely chopped 3 Garlic cloves finely chopped 2 Red chillies finely chopped 2 tablespoons ground cumin 3 tablespoons smoked paprika 1 tablespoons chilli powder 2 400g tins chopped tomatoes 300ml Beef Stock 2 400g tin red kidney beans Recipe Method Season beef with salt and pepper, heat up the oil in a large frying pan and on all  sides until golden brown place into a large oven proof dish.
