General Cookery Course Information
Cooking is all about confidence and what we try to acheive in even a one day course is to build that confidence and give people the belief that they can really tackle the next stage.
All of our cookery courses incorporate expert demonstration from our chef tutors coupled with hands-on cookery training and each student has a workstation with Rangemaster Classic Double stove and sink access, Coghlans apron, full set of Richardson of Sheffield knives, cutting boards, Le Creuset pans, as well as all the ingredients you will require for the day.
You will also be provided with a full selection of recipes that you can take home after the course, along with everything that you have cooked or prepared.
On a full day cookery course we will serve you a seperate menu 2 course luncheon. Vegetarians or special dietary needs can be catered for subject to notification before the course day.
At the end of the course there will be a chance to discuss the days learning with the chef tutor.
On the day of your course ....
Times:
Students should arrive 15 minutes before the start of the course allowing you chance to enjoy a coffee or tea and meet fellow cooks for the day. You will be met by your chef tutor and after a basic health and safety and fire briefing, we will discuss the main objectives of your day in the Kitchen.
Equipment:
All equipment and ingredients are provided for you.
What to wear:
You will spend most of the day in the kitchen - we advise wearing sensible, comfortable shoes with non-slip soles and protected toes. Loose clothing and jewellery should be avoided. Long hair should be tied back.
Skill levels
Our cookery courses show a skill level for the students attending - this is intended as a giude to the level of technical detail you will require on the day.
Beginner
Students should have an understanding of basic knife skills and basic cookery terms & techniques and is suitable to all those wanting to develop their skills and portfolio of dishes further.
Enthusiast
The student will have spent an average amount of time in the kitchen preparing a variety of meals on a regular basis - this level is suitable for students to hone their skills in a specific area of interest. Additional time is spent on finer details of working in the kitchen.
Intermediate
The student will be comfortable hosting dinner parties and cooking more complex dishes for groups. Advanced techniques and skills are shown along with co-ordinating dishes and managing the kitchen experience more effectively.
Advanced
The student will have spent time at college or working in a professional kitchen environment. These courses focus on specific techniques and dishes.
The chef tutors are happy to offer assistance to students in need of additional support during each course and will tailor the day to the group and individual level so nobody is left out in the cold.

Students are encouraged to seek out advice from one of our 4 highly trained wine advisors if they want to discuss wines to match the dishes they have prepared or if they just require good sensible wine advice from an approachable source.
